When it comes to taking care of your house, most people would agree that it is hard to find good people.

That's why we are changing the way that homeowners find and hire home improvement contractors. We take a community-driven approach and leverage the most trusted source of information that consumers have at their disposal, word-of-mouth, to create a valuable and free resource that helps homeowners make decisions on who they want to hire.

On Sharperoo, homeowners can browse through over two million profiles on licensed contractors throughout the United States. These profiles combine third-party data on contractors, with consumer feedback and information from the contractors themselves, to provide homeowners with a comprehensive and authoritative resource to help them make decisions on home improvement.

In addition to serving as an informational resource for homeowners, Sharperoo also serves as a marketing tool for contractors. Contractors can claim their profile for free and share information about their business including special offers and pictures of work they have done. By purchasing a subscription, contractors can create enhanced profiles, gain additional on-site exposure in designated sponsorship sections of and appear in more geographical and industry-based places on

Cuéntanos a qué tipo de público quieres llegar is for two main user types.

Audience 1A: Homeowners looking for different types of contractors to hire to help them with their houses. The vast majority of traffic to will come from this group. The site should be designed to make it really simple for them to quickly search for a contractor through the search bar or browse through the directory. Our goal with this audience

Audience 1B: Contractors who are looking to market their business. For contractors, we are that will help them drive business in the era of online. Yet we shouldn't be too techie because it is traditionally a pretty non-techie audience.


We are looking for two pages of design comps that take our existing pages (defined below) and improve them visually, making the style far more contemporary and "Web 2.0". In general, we want the content represented that is already on the pages we have defined below and are mostly looking to get far more professional, visually speaking. We have just created a new logo with a new color scheme that we would like used in the new design however we'd like to provide you with flexibility to be able to come up with a theme that you think works best (in other words we aren't rigid on this particular color scheme).

Page 1 - Metro area home page (i.e.

This page needs to accomplish the following goals:

1. Help homeowners find contractors in their area through browsing or searching.
2. Help homeowners understand their location and change locations if need be.
3. Teach both homeowners and contractors about the site and get them to click on a sign-up button.
4. Showcase top-ranked contractors.
5. Showcase top-ranked projects.
6. Showcase some user feedback on different contractors

Things we need done better on this page:

1. We need a more prominent call-to-action to get people to sign-up from this page. Right now, there is a little bit of text in the upper-right and a link to learn more but we want this to be more prominent, have the button be bigger and read "Sign Up."
2. We need to make search more prominent.
3. We need the framing to be much better on this page. Right now, there is too much content floating around in space. We need to frame it better.
4. There is too much text right now. We need to make this page far more visually appealing.

Page 2 - Contractor page (i.e.…d-systems)

This page needs to accomplish the following goals:

1. Help homeowners make a decision about whether or not to hire the contractor based on key information (i.e. license number, contact information, about.)
2. Show user feedback on the contractor.
3. Enable certain actions including a big "Contact" button, adding the contractor to a list of favorites, liking the contractor.
3. Show work that the contractor has done in the past.

Things we need done better on this page:

1. The content needs to be better framed and organized. Right now it looks like a bunch of stuff is floating around.
2. We need to add the Facebook "like" button to this page.
3. We are going to add an objective score (on a scale of 1-100) on this and we want that score to be highlighted somewhere on this page.
4. This is a claimed profile. On an unclaimed profile, we need to really show the contractor that they can claim the profile somewhere here. A big link that reads "Is this your business?" somewhere here would be helpful.
5. We need to add the "Sign Up" creative in the upper-right (similar to the one that will be on the metro area home page).
6. We'd also like to open up a little area on these profiles for the "Top 5 ranked contractors in this category," which will show the top 5 rated contractors in that given category on the profile page.

Things we like about this page:

1. It has most of the different content elements we need in the page.
2. We like the fact that it isn't overly complex.

Things we don't like about this page:

1. There is a lot of text. We need this page to be far more pictorial and visually friendly.
2. The eye is drawn in too many directions at once. We need there to be more of a visual hierarchy (based on the goals we have outlined above).
3. We would like more emphasis on explaining in very simple terms what the site is about and getting people to sign-in. Right now, that is done in the upper-right but we need to make that more prominent.
4. A lot of the sections seem like they are floating around and not lined up. we'd like for there to be more linear continuity throughout this section of the site.

Page 2 - Contractor page (i.e.…d-systems)

Things we do like about this page:

1. It has all the different content elements we need.
2. We don't mind the way it is all laid out.

Things we don't like about this page:

1. There seems to be linear discontinuity throughout the page. Would be nicer to have more linear continuity within the content (we'd like things to straighten-up a bit).
2. Not enough emphasis on user actions. We'd like to better emphasize user actions like "facebook like" (not currently represented on this page), add to favorites, contacting the contractor or especially, claiming the profile.
3. It would be good to make the name more prominent on the page.
4. Let's try working in a prominent score (on a scale of 1-100) somewhere. We'll be adding that in at some point.
5. Let's add in the facebook "like" somewhere that makes sense.

Páginas web de ejemplo - Great framing, the general size of the fonts, color scheme and prominence of search. This is a really well designed site. - I like the simplicity of this page, the pictorial nature (using more images than text) and the prominence of the search bar. I also like the fact that the suggestions in the search bar take you to sub-pages within the site. - The simplicity and pictorial nature of the site are good. I also like the framing and general neutrality of the color scheme. - I like the framing and visual nature of this site as well as the prominence in search.
