PlayMIO
We are creating an ambitious gamesite called "playmio.com". We don't want to do our own design because we would rather like to get some "fresh thinking" into the process.
For us the online games industry is a passion that we love working in. Basically that means that we will be picky about the results :D
Our target audience is very spesific. 14-16 years, male, from the US. Secondary targets are really anyone who enjoy casual online games in english including ages up to 30.
The typical visitor is a male school kid aged 15 who like the latest zombie shoot'em'up. Violence and a humor is an important part of it all. Immature entertainment at its best!
There are 5 pages in total:
Frontpage - The main listing of games
4 x Category page - Identical in in layout to frontpage but with colors/skin/theme adjusted for each category
Game page - The page you view while playing a game title
Here are some of the values we would like to see in the design:
+ VERY CLEAN AND SIMPLE <-- Important
+ Modern rather than traditional. We appeal to the young.
+ Solid rather than flimsy. We are here to stay.
+ User friendly comes first, but beautiful follows closely.
+ Evergreen rather than trendy. This is not another hype.
+ Exciting and inspiring rather than dull.
+ The content is most important, so the design should not steal too much attention from the content.
+ We like it when the site is very bright, but not necessarily a "white" design.
+ Targeted at male visitors mainly, but female visitors should not feel "excluded".
We really want you to go ballistic with creativity! Think like a child. We draw some inspiration from our competitors when it comes to functioanlity, layout and content placements, but as you can probably tell, they leave a lot to be desired when it comes to design:

We already have some wire frames that show how we want the content layout to be on the pages and while we are flexible, at least consider them as initial guidelines. (please see attachments).
Help us kick their ass!
