The Independent Clinician
Hi! My name is Jena and I am a Speech-Language Pathologist who works with adult survivors of stroke and brain injury. In addition to my "regular job" I help more people and earn additional income by treating patients at home.
In 2008, I started my company, The Independent Clinician, to teach fellow physical, occupational and speech therapists how to go into business for themselves by treating private patients.
On my website, http://www.IndependentClinician.com, I am selling a book with 8 content rich chapters to teach these therapists exactly what they need to succeed.
Many of these people identify more as "helping people people" vs. "business people" so the idea of starting their own business can be daunting. I want to empower them to realize that they have the clinical skills already, they just need to take that leap towards seeing patients on their own.
My audience is:
- a physical, occupational or speech therapist
- works with children OR adults
- highly educated (Masters degree or above)
- mostly female but some men
- aged 25-60
- more book savvy than computer savvy (which is why I'm doing a
physical book and not just an eBook)
- professional
- "helping people" vs. business people
Many of these people identify more as "helping people people" vs. "business people" so the idea of starting their own business can be daunting.
I'd like the book cover to reflect the following themes:
- my book has everything they need to know
- use the book to success is in the future
- taking this bold move will help them professionally and personally
Title of the Book: The Independent Clinician
Subtitle: Guide to Private Patients
Author: Jena H. Casbon, MS CCC-SLP
Pictures:
I have attached a picture of myself (EM0842Grad(2), a logo I made on one of those "design it yourself" logo sites (LogoColorTextBelow), a few stock pictures that I use on my site (which will also give you an idea of the types of customers I have)
I don't have a feeling for whether I want to just text, pictures or my logo, which is why I've chosen to hire a designer. Be creative! My only request is that it's fairly clean and not too busy with colors or images.
Colors:
I use a lot of bold blue and purples on my site, so perhaps sticking in that color genre would be good- http://www.IndependentClinician.com. I want it neither masculine or feminine looking.
Uses:
I want to use this cover for:
- books that I'll be printing off myself at Kinko's
- a smaller graphic that I can put on the site
I am NOT very computer savvy- so putting the book cover in .pdf might be easiest for me. If you could do a smaller .jpg graphic (perhaps that is rendered as a coil bound book, that would be awesome.)
Book Format:
I am not entirely sure about how the book will be bound in future editions, but for now, I'm planning to do a coil-bound book that is 8 1/2 by 11 inches. Please make sure that the formatting will allow for the coil. The book itself is about 100 pages in length.
