Hi, in a nut shell, I'm creating a space-themed browser-based casual strategy game. I'm looking for talented illustrators to create images for "hyperspace cruisers" ... think: large ships, like imperial star destroyers (star wars ... see Google images) ... I"m NOT looking for smaller combat ships, like x-wing or tie fighters. The images should look like winning entries from this 99Designs contest: http://99designs.com/contests/10561 ... (i.e., black and white) ... and final winning entries should be vectors in .ai format.
Hi all, I'm working on a casual browser-based, futuristic, outer-space game ... think "Age of Empires" in space ... in a browser. At any rate, I'm looking for talented designers skilled in Adobe Illustrator (or similar drawing tool) that can create images that will be used to represent hyperspace cruisers ... large ships that can hold other smaller ships, cargo, crew, soldiers, etc. I'm looking for creative ideas ... alien, futuristic images that are less detailed but evoke a strong idea. IMPORTANT: I need all the images to look similar in style to the winning entries from this 99Designs contest.
Please see the "what I want" section of this design brief for all the specific requirements.
Ideally the images will allow one's imagination to fill in the details. The images should evoke an idea that these ships would fit in well into the Star Wars universe, or other similar Sci-Fi movies / gaming genres. BUT PLEASE, do not copy any existing intellectual property ... I don't need those kinds of problems.
If you would prefer to submit a scanned sketch first before you do a lot of Adobe Illustrator or Photoshop work, I think that would be great. Ultimately, we'll be awarding the prize to the best finished VECTOR images and will require .ai files of the three ship designs.
** Example artwork that I think would work well ... I apologize in advance if it's bad form to use DeviantArt for this purpose. It's the best I could find in a pinch. PLEASE be original ... my intent is NOT that you copy these, only to show you things I think look cool as sources of inspiration.
IMPORTANTI'm not looking for 3D, colorful images like these examples ... I'm only providing these examples to demonstrate forms of ships I find interesting. All contest entries must be black and white and resemble my previous contest winner! http://99designs.com/contests/10561

Please let me know if you have any questions ... I'd be happy to help. Please only submit if you feel you can match the quality of artwork in these example vector images.
I pay fast, no games. Sometimes I award multiple winners for the full prize amount if the artwork is so compelling I can't live without it. I attempt to give good, honest feedback. I always have a lot of projects going on, so I'm looking to establish relationships with talented people who want to build their business, so please submit an entry ... I would LOVE to meet you!
- Three images for three different ship designs.
- What should differentiate the different types of hyperspace cruisers? That's for you to decide. It could be different manufacturers (like Ford versus Toyota, for example) or different races that have different styles, or be created in different eras. Use your imagination.
- Remember: these ships will be housing soldiers, onboard weapons, defensive systems, crew, cargo, fighter ships, etc. so they should seem massive in scale.
- Any angle is fine ... if you can create a dramatic angle (as opposed to a straight-on or side view) that would be most excellent!
- The images should be no more than 250 pixels wide by 250 pixels tall ... OR ... at least look good at that resolution.
- Per my instructions earlier, I STRONGLY STRONGLY STRONGLY suggest you < href="http://99designs.com/contests/10561" target="_blank">look at the previous contest I ran on 99Designs ... they are *black and white* with copious amount of shading to add drama. These images will be displayed against a white background.
- The more ominous and alien looking the ships are the better.
- Please, no resemblances to other's existing intellectual property. I.e., please no "stormtroopers".
- Please, no canned vector artwork. We're looking for original artwork only.
