UPDATE TO BRIEF: I wanted to give everyone the background on why we chose the name we did, our first thought was the boat with the pelican but seeing all the wonderful designs we’re really curious if everyone out there may even have a better idea of what we’re trying to portray. I thought maybe giving some background on why we chose the name we did it might give everyone some ideas of what we’re trying to portray with the logo. Living in a small beach community everything is involved around the ocean and sound waters, everything feels weathered, yet strong. There’s nothing like being out in the ocean away from everything and everyone and having a group of pelicans soar within arms reach, putting your paddle in the water and watching a school of fish switch directions in sync, looking up into the sky and seeing the stars while sailing into the night, watching the seagulls flock around the shrimp trawlers, seeing the daily catch be brought in, walking the beaches after a storm and seeing the treasures that washed up, diving a ship wreck. There’s no line that divides where someone comes from, the status class they fall into, everyone is a single group and we all look out for each other, the stories from the people who have lived here for decades who become everyone’s grandparents and we love to hear the stories the good and the not so good, it’s what brings our community together. That’s basically why we chose Old Salt, it’s just a way of life here.
I feel like I’m writing a travel brochure!
So the strong we want to represent comes from both the feeling we’re trying to describe, the people and the quality product. The weathered is the style we’re shooting for but also describes the people and the effects of living on the coast has on just about everything.
Please take what I wrote and if you have any ideas that might give a person a small bit of this feeling when they see our logo, we would love to see it!
ORIGINAL BRIEF: One idea we had is an old weathered upside boat in the sand dunes with saw grass and a pelican perched on the boat. We do want the pelican incorporated, if you find a different way of incorporating the pelican we would love to see that also. We want the logo to be simplistic, we're wanting to create a branding iron to brand it into the bottom of the furniture so we need to keep it somewhat simple. We would also like to see logos that have clean lines yet look weathered or rustic at the same time. We want our customers to see something strong yet comfortable and relaxing.
We're also open to ideas that the artists may have!
