FindBigMail
We have a website that Google Apps and Gmail users use to free up space in their email accounts. They come to us when they run out of the (large!) amount of space or are getting low.
We run a "scan" and label their large emails into groups of different sizes. We also send them a "Top Emails" list that has links to the top 20 largest messages (though that size may change).
This service can be run for free for any Gmail account at http://www.findbigmail.com - the easiest way to see what we do.
We charge for Google Apps domains and will soon appear in the Google Apps Marketplace.
Our emphasis is on doing this one thing very well and with minimum hassle. Its possible we'll provide other email-related services in the future, but they'll likely be around ensuring there is enough space in the email account.
This is typically not a repeat service. Users will search and find it when they need it, use it once and forget about it for 6-12 months until their mailbox fills up again. Somehow we want to convey "simple", "trustworthy", "no hassles".
The audience is purely web-based. There is no print or offline use possible for this service.
The audience is very international. More than 50% of users are not from native-English speaking countries.
This service may be made available to all users in a specific domain. The domain administrator will make it available from a menu in Gmail. In this scenario, it would be useful for the logo to be easily described by voice or email, as in "When I clicked there was that red picture of a gnu and then .."
The audience is very broad. Its is all users: young, old, male, female. Obviously they are heavy email users, and thus do skew towards more technically adept. However part of the appeal of the product is its simplicity. The technical users often recommend it to their non-technical friends.
We plan to localize into many languages over time, and would prefer not to have words in the logo if possible - though the domain name will most likely remain the same regardless.
We want to use the same logo in all our web presences, including:
- our website, http://www.findbigmail.com
- emails we send as part of our service ("starting...", "result")
- Google Marketplace Apps
- Paypal page
- Twitter
- Facebook
One of the challenges of this is that some of these sites require rectangular logo images, while others are square.
We also expect the logo to feature in many of the online reviews we receive, either as part of the screen captures, or explicitly. Many reviews to date have made their own logos (including an interesting spin on the Twitter "fail whale" from "heavy emails"). It would be nice if the logo can survive the typical resizing (mostly shrinking) of such treatment and still be recognizable / reminiscent of the normal size logo.
Our website is in need of a redesign also. Its highly likely we'll work with one of the designers we find in this logo design on the website design too.
