A logo is required for an actuarial consulting firm.
The website on which it will appear is at: http://tinyurl.com/2ld832
I have used the tinyurl only to prevent this page showing up on searches for the company name.
Immediately after this competition, a separate competition will be held for general website design and layout for the home page and content pages (so do not use the tinyurl site as a guide to what we want in a logo).
Actuarial work involves mathematics, finance, demography and statistics. Actuaries work in areas such as insurance and superannuation. Details are available at the url above. Clients are almost exclusively lawyers and companies in the financial sector, not individuals.
The overall message should be solid, efficient, precise, fairly conservative (relative to say a web development firm) though modern. Something very simple, clean and professional, with (a restrained use of) colour to add interest. Definitely nothing web 2.0, and please do not use mathematical symbols or any obvious calculator/finance symbolism.
There seem to be two possible routes, either of which would be acceptable:
- text only/text with a line, but improving the colour/typography/layout of elements. But even in this case, the design should not be too similar to the current logo.
- text with a small simple graphicObviously we need to be able to use the logo without any copyright issues on the font or design. Before making a payment to the winning designer, we will require an invoice.
I will be checking entries every day, and will provide feedback to as many as possible. I will certainly give feedback to entrants that are along the right track. For entries that are not on the right track, I will try and provide individual feedback, or if there are too many I will put in some general comments pointing to designs which are.
