We're a small team of web developers who have run a programming
contest (http://railsrumble.com) in a niche web development community
for the last 3 years. We're looking to branch out and deliver a more general-purpose programming contest platform and need a logo for it.
We appeal mainly to web developers and alpha-geeks at the moment but the idea would be to have general appeal (although primarily targeted towards the tech industry).
Since it's for a new competition, you're allowed a fair amount of
creative freedom in what you design. Have fun with it. We value things that are fun and geeky (with a professional / polished finish, of course).
Most of these requirements are oriented towards helping us integrate it. Namely,
1) We need, at a minimum, for it to look good at several different sizes;
It needs to look clean / crisp for smaller sizes (64-128 pixels), medium
sizes (appx. 512px) as well as larger sizes (e.g. 1000px+); It would ideally in vector form (program choice is yours) so we could resize for most cases outside of that at will.
2) It should look good when faviconized / have a simple favicon version
associated it - as a web brand, this is very important for us. Something
possibly with a colour background which we can theme as needed for events would be awesome.
3) Most of all, it shouldn't be complex - Simpler, more elegant logos are better.
Please do not use any stock images or clip art in the logo
To sum up, something simple, that sizes well (possibly easily customizable on a per competition basis). Ideally, you'd use CMYK ai files for a print version and a layered psd for the web version (although the emphasis should be on the web version of the logo).
Thanks! We can't wait to see what you come up with.
