Update: We'd like to see more "gates". We haven't received too many "gate" options and it is something we'd be prone to seriously consider as a good fit given our name. Please make sure the gate is inviting and not fencing people off. Thus the gate should be at least cracked open and not have any sharp, pointy edges. It can be literal (drawing a literal wooden fence-gate) or more implied, but it should be clearly a gate. Get creative and we'll work with you to help tailor it! Thanks!
Please see the attached document. This will help you get a much better feel for who we are. Here's some of what you'll see there:
What: Gateway Community Church (GCC) is a small (~100 adults + 25 kids) intergenerational, evangelical, non-denominational Christian church in Middleton, Wisconsin, a suburb of Madison, Wisconsin. We are looking for a new, modern, logo that will be attractive to young adults and families (age 20-40), but still appeal to the older (age 65+) core group of church members. The logo will be used on powerpoint slides in the worship service, in print on the weekly church program (B&W printer and photocopier) and many other print materials, some of which are color and some are B&W. We are also hoping to use the new logo on a large outdoor sign at the front of the property. The sign will be roughly 8 feet wide by 4 feet tall (see pictures below of current sign).
About us, from our constitution: “GCC is a community of faith whose members see themselves as a small part of the true Body of Christ, and considers their calling to be a corporate witness to and a living example of the triumphant life and ministry of our Lord Jesus Christ. It is our highest joy and most profound calling to be a part of the Body of Christ. This designation provides us with our clearest sense of identity. It is our intention to honor Christ in everything we do. “
Thoughts about the new logo:
We’re looking for a logo that contains both a graphic element as well as the words “Gateway Community Church.” It might be nice to have a version that also includes the three words “Seek Grow Live”, but it’s not necessary. We preferably want something that isn’t generic to every Christian church, for example, just a plain cross.
To that end, logos that somehow draw on the idea of a “gate” or “gateway” may be given priority. Please make sure the gate is inviting and not fencing people off. Thus the gate should be at least cracked open and not have any sharp, pointy edges.
Alternatively, logos that artistically incorporate the initials GCC might be nice as well. Because the cross and the Bible are central to who we are and what we believe, inclusion of references to those might be desirable. Lastly, given the somewhat unique shape of our building (see below), a logo that somehow make reference to that shape or profile might help make the logo unique to us.
Regarding colors, as you see from the pictures below, the building has mainly tan, brown, and burgundy or rust red. So the logo should perhaps tie into those. There is also a lot of green grass and trees on the property. We are in a residential neighborhood, but also very close to farmland and natural grass prairie land. So, we want something that fits that setting, and is not too urban looking.
We are not fancy. We are not ornate. We know we don’t want pointed-arch or stained-glass windows. Our church is not at all old gothic style. We also don’t want any birds or angel wings or halos.
We desire a logo that has a clean, fresh, balanced look. Not too edgy or modern or corporate or urban. But not too stodgy and old-fashioned.
See the attached doc for more info and examples of logos we like from other churches.
