Jine
The job is to design a logotype for upcoming Swedish domain registrar & web host, Jine.
As opposed to other webhosts in the sector, Jine will strive to make hosting, and domain-registration simplistic and straight forward, rather than confusing our users with an information overload.
Our interface will be easy to use, our user agreements will be clear and honest, and our users will enjoy a great deal of flexibility in terms of customization, and being able to scale their resources, depending on their needs.
The brand identity we are striving for is that of a small, humble yet knowledgable organisation. Our visitors will look to us as a safe haven to host their content & domain names.
We identify ourselves with others who have taken on the task of making complexity more simple, such as;
Mediatemple - http://mediatemple.net/
Xero - http://www.xero.com/
Campaign Monitor - http://www.campaignmonitor.com/
Our color scheme is:
Sky blue - #a5dcf7
White - #fffff
Silver-ish grey - #e5e5e5
Our target audience is broad, but a majority of our users will be either webmasters, web developers or web designers who are looking for a no-nonsense approach to managing their websites and domain names.
This group of people tend to be rather picky about where they place their trust, so it's important to us not to come off as a second-grade alternative.
Good design is integral to Jine, and will be present everywhere. Every interface button, graphic and typographic element will be carefully crafted, and the clean back-end area of the site will not just ‘do the job’, but will also make it enjoyable due to its aesthetic value.
We want to appeal to our target audience with a beautiful page, a well coded back-end, and great interface design. The logo should slot in well, and provide the icing on this very tasty cake.
First and foremost, we are looking for polished and well thought out work. We have a graphic design team in place, who are working on the website (mockup attached).
Below are some logotypes we feel are stylistically similar to what we are looking for:

As you see, we are looking for a clean and abstract symbol, and some nice typography. Alternatively, it could be pure text, but this would have to be excecuted in a very classy way.
Attributes to keep in mind:
- Friendly
- Easy-to-use
- Flexible
Do's and dont's
- Do use the attached mockup to see if your logo will fit our page. Our website will be the focal point of our business, and if it doesent work there, it won't work at all.
- Don't use overly generic symbols. Infuse the logo with personality, rather than making it feel like "Random webhost & domain registrar company".
- Don't blatantly copy other submissions. Try a new idea instead, and make it your own.
- Don't use standard fonts. We are able to license professional typefaces once we have aqcuired the logo, so please do not limit yourself to OS-standard or very typical free fonts.
- Be technical. If you do choose to submit a predictable idea, make sure its well excecuted, and that typography, colors and overall composition looks professional and consistent.
