Race Against Time - Haiti
An number of capable, experienced and internationally-focused individuals, groups, non-profits and networks have joined together to form the International Disaster Response Network (IDRN) to better collaborate and coordinate response efforts.
Since January 12th, IDRN partners have been working diligently to maximize efforts in Haiti. Through our efforts, we have received many volunteers, offers and solid support. However, getting people and supplies TO those people hurting the most continues to be a huge problem. Where the IDRN efforts are in Haiti, it is becoming increasing desperate & a true RACE AGAINST TIME. It's not an uncommon problem, however the current Haiti situation is particularly bad.
In the midst of this, a small coffee shop in the Colorado town of Windsor is hosting a big event this coming Sunday, Jan 31. This coffee shop was a rallying point when that town survived its own tornado disaster in the recent past. With many of the IDRN members based out of Colorado, this event is receiving significant statewide media coverage.
The hope and belief is that the RACE AGAINST TIME idea can be used as a recurring fundraising mechanism for the IDRN and provide small groups/businesses with a way to help engage in disaster response support.
We need a LOGO for the site that's being stood up in the next 24 hrs.
If you want to help, HELP US with designing a logo! Pls!
The target audience would be people who would potentially join in fundraising efforts to support disaster response initiatives - especially those as significant as Haiti.
We would anticipate that the approach that is being modeled in the small coffee shop could be replicated in many other small hip, community centered coffee shops... and could bleed over to any small establishment or group wanting to help raise money.
We need something that'll be FLYER/POSTER friendly... when raising awareness... T-SHIRT friendly... But remember this isn't a HAPPY or CUTE topic, so we want something people-centric, strong and bold, but not flippant, silly or too light-hearted.
"Urgent" is a good work - which speaks to the title since it quite literally is a race against time.
Time/clock references are not off limits, but don't feel overly compelled to include that in designs.
We need something that is not-USA centric, as we would help to see this eventually be of interest to people outside of the United States - so, in other words, keep the international nature of the IDRN in mind. We have helped coordinate many international teams in responses... even though the immediate need is US-focused.
When people host these grassroot events, the logo and website will need a strong logo.
