THE CHURCH’S 3 KEY ADVANTAGES
Churches are the answer to the foster and orphan crisis in this country. In short, the government has the kids; the church has the parents. The church has 3 key advantages over any other organization:
1. Motivation. Throughout scripture God is shown to love orphans, and scriptures exhort us to have God’s heart for the orphan and to care for them. In a word, the motivation is love. Practicing Christians are more than twice as likely to adopt than the general population, and they are three times more likely than the general population to seriously consider fostering.
2. Participation. This is a big problem, but the church is even bigger. 55,000,000 attend church on any given Sunday (17% of the U.S. population). That is more than 50X as many people who attend all NFL games on any given week. A total of 132,000,000 different people attend church on same basis. And it’s not just the numbers of participants; the church has incredible diversity. People from all races and walks of life make up the church. With 330,000 congregations in the United States, just one family from every church in America could solve the orphan crisis.
3. Distribution. Churches are spread throughout every part of the country. Churches are in cities, suburbs, and the country. There are dozens of churches in every school district. No matter where vulnerable children come from, there are churches near with families who can help.
