This novel is mainly written in letters and it's a love story between Marie from Germany and Orlando from London. It takes place between 1999 and 2001 and it's a funny, cheerful, sometimes serious but always humorous insight to these 3 years in which these two talk about life, their worries and struggles, their families and various changes in life. Marie is a student while Orlando's carreer as an actor has just taken off. She's quite down to earth and keeps his feet on the ground in a time of teenage fan hordes lurking at his feet and famous directors offering him opportunities he simply cannot decline.
In 2001 their story goes on an year-long trip when the letters get 'lost' and then travel London for nearly 20 years before eventually finding their way back to the two in 2018.
Here's the blurb in translation for you:

She didn’t mean to steal it - it belonged to her friends after all – but as she spotted the mysterious box in her trunk, Grace began to wonder what was hidden inside. It wasn’t a large box, rather shoebox-sized, but secured with a fragile golden padlock. Grace, fully aware that cracking this secret would violate all the rules of friendship, hesitated. But then her curiosity outweighed her decorum. Later, she could always claim the box had been dropped in transit. Grace slid a screwdriver between the shackles and broke the padlock with a deft twist of her hand. And then she looked inside…"
